BROOKLYN FAMILY AFFECTED BY GUN VIOLENCE GETS CHRISTMAS TREAT
The 12 children of a Brooklyn mother who was shot to death over the summer received toys at a community-organized Christmas shopping spree in Brownsville. Zurana Horton's children were given special treatment at Shoppers World on Pitkin Avenue. Community leaders and the NYPD Brooklyn Clergy Task Force organized the event. DISCOUNT DEPARTMENT STORE OPENS TODAY
Bargain-hunters in central Ohio have another destination today. Shoppers World is opening its first Ohio discount department store at Great Western Shopping Center.
The New York-based retailer plans two more in Columbus this year: at Northern Lights Shopping Center, to open in May, and at Town and Country Shopping Center. NEW SHOPS COMING TO GREENBELT, BERWYN HEIGHTS TO FILL STORE VACANCIES
Businesses go and businesses come in Greenbelt and Berwyn Heights as shopping center owners seek to stave off the effects of the recession by filling store vacancies and maintain a healthy retail presence in the two municipalities.
Greenbelt's Greenway Center will see some new businesses as well as expansion of some existing businesses within the next two months. In March, Dollar Tree will occupy the former 10,000 square foot Pier 1 space in Greenway Center, said Linda Dreyer, a marketing manager at Combined Properties, the management and leasing company of the joint businesses located in Greenway Center. SHOPPERS WORLD TAKING FORMER TARGET SPACE ON U.S. 31 SOUTH
Discount department store chain Shoppers World has signed a deal to take over a shuttered Target store on the south side.

DISCOUNT RETAILER LATEST MALL ADDITION
Another competitor officially entered the Indianapolis retail market with a ribbon-cutting, late Thursday afternoon.
The company said it's now the largest department store in Indianapolis.
Store President Abe Dushey admits expanding Shoppers World in the space JC Penney once occupied at Lafayette Square mall is an experiment.
"Here's an area that was being underserved with some other businesses actually leaving this part of town.
For me, it just seemed to be a no-brainer," said General Manager Anwar Euring.
Restoring Lafayette Square is also great news to Deputy Mayor Olgen Williams. "We hope they make tons of money," said Williams.
